The number 7 is sometimes referred to as “God’s Number.” There are seven days in a week, seven colors traditionally identified in the rainbow, and examples of seven seem to surround us. The number 7 also appears many times throughout the Bible.
What would we discover if we started at the very beginning of the Bible and followed the number seven all the way through Scripture – book by book, from Genesis to Revelation?
That is the journey I am about to begin here at ThereYouAreJesus.com. And before we’ve even left the Bible’s first verse, something remarkable appears.
Seven Words at the Very Beginning of the Bible. Most of us know the opening words, which are: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” – Genesis 1:1
But something is hidden from readers of the English translation – that is found in the original Hebrew language:
Genesis 1:1 contains “exactly seven words.”
Seven
And that is only the very beginning!
The evidence presented here on ThereYouAreJesus has traditionally been organized into four categories. One is direct eyewitness evidence of the afterlife, while the other three examine different forms of circumstantial evidence – recurring patterns of meaningful coincidences observed during our own lifetime:
- Eyewitness Afterlife — The Seven Spirits of God
- Nature — Messages delivered through God’s Creation
- Numbers — Repeating patterns from Heaven to Earth
- Everyday Things — Relevant coincidences woven into ordinary life
The Biblical Trail of Sevens will be different. Instead of beginning with events and observations from our own lifetimes, its source of evidence will be the Bible itself.
We are going to look at Scripture through one very specific lens: What happens when we begin in Genesis and systematically follow seven throughout the Bible?
And isn’t it interesting that the very first thing we encounter occurs in the very first verse? Before we’ve even reached the seventh day of Creation, the opening verse of Scripture contains seven Hebrew words.
Is that merely a coincidence? Is it intentional? Does it carry theological significance?
At this point, we don’t have to decide. We can begin with something simpler: It’s there.
And that’s precisely how I want to approach the entire series, titled The Biblical Trail of Sevens, which will examine all 66 Books of the Bible, one book at a time: First observe the evidence; then examine it carefully; and only afterward consider what it might mean.
Continuing through the opening chapters in the Book of Genesis, “seven” soon becomes impossible to overlook. God completes His work of creation and rests on the “seventh” day. He blesses the seventh day and makes it holy.
From there, seven continues appearing throughout Scripture – sometimes plainly, sometimes in ways that invite a closer look.
So, I began wondering: What would happen if we actually followed it? Not by selecting a handful of famous examples. Not by starting with a conclusion and looking for verses that support it. But by beginning with Genesis and proceeding carefully through the Bible, book by book, recording and examining the significant appearances of seven all along the way.
A Trail Through the Entire Bible
We will begin in the Book of Genesis, then Exodus, and Leviticus, and continue right on through all the historical books, the Psalms and wisdom literature, the prophets, the Gospels and New Testament letters – until eventually we arrive at Revelation, where seven becomes one of the most prominent numbers in the entire book.
Some appearances will be familiar. Others may be surprising. Some may carry obvious theological significance. Others will require us to slow down, examine the context, and ask whether the number is significant or simply numerical. And sometimes the most responsible conclusion may be: We don’t know. That’s part of the journey too.
Why Seven Matters to ThereYouAreJesus
Readers familiar with ThereYouAreJesus already know why this subject has special meaning to me.
When I was a child and momentarily died, my grandfather showed me what he identified as the Seven Spirits of God before God’s Throne and told me, “Now that you have seen, if you go back to life, you should tell people about them.”
Many years later, I began discovering just how deeply the number seven runs through Scripture. The Bible itself refers to the Seven Spirits of God in Revelation. And Isaiah describes the Spirit resting upon the coming Messiah in language Christians have long associated with the sevenfold Spirit of God.
My purpose with this new series, however, is not to force every biblical seven into that experience. Quite the opposite. I want to let Scripture lead the investigation. Where the connection is strong, we’ll examine it. Where it isn’t, we’ll say so. And where something raises an intriguing question, we’ll ask the question rather than pretend we already know the answer.
An Invitation to Walk the Trail with Me
I don’t yet know everything we’re going to discover. That’s one of the things that excites me most about beginning this project.
Imagine laying out the significant appearances of seven across the Bible – from the seven Hebrew words that open Genesis, through the seventh day of Creation, through Israel’s history and the prophets, through the teachings of Jesus, and ultimately to the extraordinary concentration of sevens in Revelation.
What patterns will emerge? What connections will become clearer? Which apparent connections will turn out not to be connections at all? And what might we notice simply because, for once, we decided to follow the trail from beginning to end?
That’s what The Biblical Trail of Sevens is going to explore. We won’t rush it. We’ll take it one book at a time. We’ll distinguish – what Scripture explicitly says – from what we may reasonably observe – and from what remains uncertain. This is not a project that begins with an answer and only seeks scripture to support that answer. Instead, we’re searching throughout the entire Bible for the significant appearances of the number seven, examining what Scripture says about them, and presenting what we discover to you.

Of all the things we do, our core mission at ThereYouAreJesus is to help restore into Christian teaching the worthy magnification of all Seven Spirits of God – the sevenfold manifestation of God’s Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ: Knowledge, Understanding, Wisdom, our Lord Jesus Christ, Counsel, Might, and reverent Fear of our Lord.
The Seven Spirits are not something being added to Scripture. They’re already there.
Isaiah prophesies about the Spirit resting upon the Messiah centuries before the birth of Jesus, and centuries later John the Apostle repeatedly records visions of the Seven Spirits of God in Revelation. Yet the Seven Spirits receive comparatively little attention in mainstream Christian worship and teaching today.
I believe part of the reason can be traced to the historic creeds. The early creeds were necessarily concise summaries of foundational Christian beliefs; they were never intended to contain every detail found in Scripture. But as later Christian doctrine and instruction developed around those summaries, important biblical details – including the Seven Spirits of God – received far less attention.
Our mission is to help restore that attention.
I prayerfully invite you to participate. Learn about the Seven Spirits. Share what you learn with others. Ask your priest, minister, pastor, deacon, bishop, teacher, or other church leader whether the Seven Spirits of God are included in their sermons, lessons, ministry, and religious formation.
